Sad News

It saddens us to inform you that our beloved Mayor of Hamilton, Jim McInnis, passed.  Jim’s passing is a great loss to the City.  Jim was someone who made you want to spend more time listening than talking.  He treated people the way everyone would want to be treated.  And he never took someone else’s time for granted.

Jim had so many adventures in his life.  He would tell City staff of leading major security details in other countries.  He was in charge of massive projects that called for him to rent huge US Airforce jets to complete.  He once spoke of taking a vacation for a couple of weeks in a South American jungle where no would dare to go.  He seemed to be amazingly calm and comfortable in difficult situations.  He always told City Staff that it was too dangerous to record his adventures which would always get a laugh out of us, but I am pretty sure that he was serious.

Jim treated people kindly.  He was equipped with wisdom, full of life experiences and would treat everyone with the utmost respect.  Jim was credible, if he told you something, he would follow through.   If you were lucky enough to be close to him, you would feel protected by his overarching appreciation and kind words during projects and tasks.  When working with Jim he had a way of making you feel important.

He was very busy and very fit for an 85 year old.  He spoke several languages, but he never tried to impress others with his skill.  He was gracious enough to serve the City of Hamilton as our Mayor, and he was indeed a servant leader.  He was constantly promoting the City of Hamilton, and he was not shy about doing so.  He was in touch with our United States and State representatives to try to keep Hamilton on the radar of congressional staff.  Jim was a skilled representative himself and selfless in his contacts with elected officials at all levels.  I am very thankful our City was blessed with Jim’s leadership for the past 2 and 1/2 years.  The City of Hamilton extends condolences to Jim’s family.
