Hamilton Fair Park Gets New Look to Welcome Visitors

Thanks to several public and private sector organizations and volunteers who are similarly committed to improving the appearance of our community, Hamilton Fair Park has a new look to welcome visitors to the complex.

Keep Hamilton Beautiful organized the project as a station for Natural Resource Day, which is hosted each year by the Hamilton County AgriLife Extension Service for Hamilton and Hico ISD fifth and sixth graders.

At the event, the Hamilton County Master Gardeners provided an educational session for the students about annuals and perennials, soil types, and native landscaping.  The students planted several native plants including red crape myrtles, red yuccas, yellow lantana, purple vitex, and agave. The City of Hamilton Police Department kept the kids and volunteers safe at the event by providing a barrier from the road traffic.

Preparation for the project took teamwork and collaboration.  Justin and Shawna Cozby donated the landscaping boulders for the border of the flower beds.  Colin Melton, owner of Dig This! Nursery, Landscaping, & Irrigation created the flower beds on both sides of the entrance sign using the landscaping boulders.  The City of Hamilton Public Works Department hauled soil and mulch to the location site.  Brent and Robin Donahoo donated the soil.  Blue Streak Tree Trimming & Removal provided the mulching equipment to make the mulch, which was made from recycled brush from the City brush pile.  The Hamilton Economic Development Corporation provided the funding for the trees and flowers through the Keep Hamilton Beautiful Program.

“This project is the perfect example of what we can accomplish when working together for the betterment of our community.  It’s always great to include the kids.  They not only learned about plants, and beautification, but also learned about the importance of giving back to their community.  We appreciate all of the people who helped make it happen, and we look forward to future projects.”  Sarah Bauman.
